Mountain Biking in Squamish

The first mountain biking trails in Squamish were developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, largely by a group of local enthusiasts. These trails were built by hand and often followed the logging roads that crisscrossed the mountains around Squamish.

As mountain biking grew in popularity, the local government began to invest in developing and maintaining a network of purpose-built trails. In 2005, the Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA) was formed to help promote and manage the local trail network. SORCA is a non-profit organization that works closely with the government, landowners, and local businesses to ensure that mountain biking in Squamish remains sustainable and accessible.

Today, Squamish is home to over 200 kilometers of world-class mountain biking trails, ranging from beginner-friendly cross-country routes to challenging downhill trails.

Mountain biking has become an important part of Squamish's identity, with many local businesses catering to the needs of mountain bikers. The sport has also helped to boost the town's economy, bringing in tourism dollars and providing employment opportunities for locals.
